Germanium detectors are the top-of-the-line gamma-ray spectroscopy instruments. Measurement systems based on germanium detectors have the highest levels of sensitivity for detecting and quantifying gamma-emitting radionuclides in the environment, laboratory, medical facility, or nearly any other area where radionuclides may be located. To meet these application requirements, germanium detectors come in a wide variety of the models, sizes, and cryostat combinations. Knowing which system provides the best performance for one’s application and budget can be challenging and confusing. In this session, we will present an overview of gamma spectroscopy applications and provide guidelines for selecting with confidence the right system to meet your measurement requirements and budgetary constraints.
