Mirion’s Approach to Detection and Identification:

Helping Combat the Illicit Trafficking of Radioactive Material and Terrorist Radiological Threats

Mirion Technologies has developed a full range of solutions and systems to ensure the physical protection of critical infrastructure, as well as provide detection, real-time identification, response to potential threats, and prevent trafficking of radioactive material.

These new developments ensure the security of borders, critical infrastructure, international or local events, and in case of a terrorist attack provide support to emergency response teams.

In order for the participants of the Detection and Identification Seminar to know how to find the best technical solution for each specific situation, several full-scale exercises will be held in the afternoons.

1- How to Search for a Source in a Crowd of People ?

Detect a radiological isotope in a continuous flow of people, without impacting the entry or exit process. Analyze radiological alerts in real-time to know if the detected isotope is naturally occurring, medical or if it is a real threat.

2- How to Dynamically Control Sources Inside Vehicles Without Impeding the Flow of Traffic ?

Provide primary screening of a lane of vehicle traffic at a check point and trigger an alert in the event of radiological detection. Then, proceed to secondary screening to identify the radionuclide.

3- How to Conduct a Radiological “Commando Operation” ?

Unexpected sources are discovered in a large area where multiple units, equipped with different types of devices, are operating. The supervision software with instant radiological mapping allows the coordination of different units using the remote command station.
