Acing Radiological Security with SPIR-Ace

SPIR-Ace is a novel versatile handheld device addressing a wide application scope requiring efficient detection and identification of radiological threats in multi-modal fluxes of people and goods, including civil defense, border security and customs. SPIR-Ace also provides accurate assessment of nuclear materials for power plants, safeguard inspection, forensic laboratories and OSI/CTBTO agents.

SPIR-Ace is based on proven core detection technologies deployed in the SPIR products. It is compact enough to be operated as a Spectrometric Radiation Detector (SPRD), and sensitive enough to be operated as a Radio Isotope Identification Device (RIID), and exceeds the sensitivity of the ANSI N42-34 standard. It offers a user-friendly interface, such as directional information of the detected source and GPS location.

SPIR-Ace features a wide range of web services to support various types of missions. For covert operations, SPIR-Ace can be controlled and operated by any remote computing platform with a web-browser. For reporting or expert analysis, radiological alarms are either sent via e-mail, or sent via FTP (N42.42 data format). For securing special events, or infrastructure, when threat assessment requires real time radiological context aggregated from multiple sensors, SPIR-Ace communicates position, status and measurement to the SpirVIEW supervision software.
